I am late on posting this, but I must share one of the lessons I’ve had recently learned from my days encounter.
As a podcast host, author, speaker on my platform, and the woman I am becoming, I am always holding myself to the value of my word. What do I mean? I believe in always being an example of my faith, words written/spoken, and the woman my future family can always look up to.
We all can agree Perfect is unrealistic in every way.
About two weeks ago, I was traveling with family. My mother and I specifically for travel were traveling companions. First and foremost, I heavily committed to not speaking, giving room for thoughts, or listening to anything in opposition for what I am believing God for in this year, season, time, and according to His promise. With this being said, I as a human being fail a day or two by grunting some externally before I caught myself. It was giving gateway for opposition to raise and the atmosphere to be gloomy on a trip intended for all smiles, literally. Now, I immediately settled, paused, self examined, completed a self talk, and apologized to my traveling companion for the tone I had presented at the beginning. Let’s take a moment, first and foremost the reality of seeing self drift for a moment into the consumption of the world around is enough to snap back into the becoming lifestyle you are growing in. If seeing you are the atmosphere setter for your day and life in every area from what you set in your mind, speak with your tongue, and allow in your heart isn’t enough for you to self examine and auto correct, ma’am/sir, I don’t know what to tell you but to dive deeper.
Okay, let me drive it back home.
The trip became completely enjoyable, filled with laughs, smiles, relaxation, and vibrant in every way. Every challenge faced from the rest of the trip was natural(likes/dislikes of food here and there, overcharged service(literally), and wait time for service(give or take)).
The trip came to an end and it was time to travel back. Well, things were smooth running until we returned back to the states. Here came the test again, will I speak the words of positiveness, remain calm, use the power of my tongue to speak to the atmosphere or will I fail the test?!? Well, well, well…I wasn’t ready. My response was giving I wasn’t ready. This is the short version of it all. Due to the airline taxi hold, delay to gate, an the airline not wanting to own up to their cause of over 50 people missing their connecting flight, I allowed the consumption of the world around to impact me instead of me impacting the world around. My traveling companion, my mother, received the frustrated, loss of patience, grunting existence of me in the moment. Let’s take another moment.
Sweethearts, I forgot every breathing technique learned from therapy, every communication skill gained in life, and patience ran out like the energy bunny. After the one or two calls of expression, a text message or two, being accommodated room and food, being in summer clothes in the climate of 30 degrees or less without a coat, and waiting for a driver to even find us, I still didn’t release the failed test results in this life moment. Instead of being present, embracing the frustrations of normal travel, remaining calm, laughing this all off, and accepting I cannot change what I cannot control, I gave the world around what they always see from individuals. This was a hard pill to swallow.
Arrival home after final flight, my heart was so heavy and unease from the disgusting response I gave my mother(traveling companion), the hurt I could have caused, the disappointment I felt, the one opportunity to show something different in the world around in the moment, all weighed on me. I first acknowledged and accepted my faults and flaws, I then, went to God for forgiveness, and lastly, I apologized and hugged my mother. I made a decision to breathe no matter what, accessed the challenges, and then approach with a precise thought out response because I get one shot in the moment.
What’s the lesson to share, breathe, pause, access, acknowledge, respond with the best most impactful lasting impression which will hold you to your becoming.
It’s not always easy because every situation, matter at hand, and reality of it all varies. However, you have one opportunity in the moment, at a specific time, to sometimes be quick (with the right heart posture and training) or to respond in a timely manner (time to access and breathe before responding). Time sensitivity varies as well.
Hope this helped someone.
