We breathe the same air yet from different places of the world. We see the same sky yet from a different angle of the world. We are all count the same time but from different zones. We all experience life only differently and at varies timescales. We can all share a smile from wherever we are and add the same effect of brightness to lives we share our smile with.
Lately, I close my eyes and the memory of our past we shared floats in my head. Memories of you arriving from work and find me in bed tucked comfortably under the covers and you come to the room to ask if I’m sleeping, waiting for me to move. Then, you say it again I know you’re not sleep already. Maybe you leave a kiss on my cheek, let me just rest, or either come take a nap with me. Either way the memories are coming up and I’m not sure why. As I write or talk about them, I feel lighter. It’s like a freeing space from what I’ve been holding. We can’t relive the past and we can’t live in the past. The present time is allowing me to release peacefully what I had within. Maybe this time was for me to say what I wanted to say that no matter what pages we have turned, you were good to me. All the things I didn’t say I say them now, thank you for being a part of my history. Thank you for being you and loving me just where I was. Some treasures we hold and some we have to let go to share because some treasures someone else needs to find. We may be apart or the process of the grooming of treasure. Either way thank you and remember you are a treasure to cherish. In life, we learn, we grow, and we fall to become the person we know.
The saying goes, I am not the same person you once knew. Well, I pondered on this today and decided to share what I learned in my recent experience. I am the same person , I only choose to live differently than I once lived. I made the decision to dedicate my life to Christ and even though my walk in follow ship has not always shown the right example, I still choose to be better. I feared for some time facing, revisiting, and returning to old places and people because I was afraid of my old ways. Today it dawned on me, the new lifestyle I choose each day is greater than the old ones. No matter what run ins I may encounter along my journey, I can still walk in the direction I have grown in and continue to evolve towards. There is no need to fear because you have the strength of God to be who you continue to grow into. The future says you are arriving, the present says you becoming, and the past says you are growing. You get to choose each day no matter who identified you as yesterday or even a second ago, you choose and keep growing forward. Evolving has many developments along the way by the transformation, process, and diversification.
“Evolution is a process of continuous branching and diversification from commontrunks. This pattern of irreversible separation gives life’s history its basic directionality.”— Stephen Jay Gould
My encouragement to you is not to fear any longer your past version rather choose to live your present working to becoming a future version.
The door I gazed at on the steps as I sat still with my thoughts.
The memories never stop. The past still hunts; you just learn ways to manage them and not allow them to manipulate you. When memory comes knocking, you can keep the door lock and use your voice to speak the words you are not welcome here. Some random day your memory is triggered, but you will be able to speak life and courage to, in and over you. The hunt may not seem to fade but your strength grows stronger.
